Portfolio

A wide set of portfolio covers various facets of my skills in delivering user experience design. Some of the major projects I have been involved are as follows:

.

SAP, MHCI 2007 capstone project

(User Testing lead)

Challenged to bridge the gap between SAP’s composite application and its users. The current tool is designed to support the business analyzers but it was disconnected from the context within which they are used since the tool is entirely built by developers. Our solution is to explore the opportunities to empower business users in the development and to enhance usability and findability by recreating the entire architecture. Please watch the video of JIGSAW, the demo video of our interactive prototype solution.

.

Intelligent agent for home, Smart home project

Explored opportunities and design challenges on creating an intelligent agent embedded in a typical american household settings. Our solution is to create a smart calendar “OnTheEdge”, which intervenes and manages stressful events for dual income family. Various HCI methods, directed storytelling, 100+ ideation, concept validation, are used. Here is the concept validation document, have a look. The final deliverable is built in three video sketch videos to narrate the concept in visualized storytelling format.

.

Smart house to smart home, Smart home project

Design challenge on designing and evaluating a smart home system that helps dual income families manage their ever-increasing business. A new emerging design method called Speed Dating which enables a rapid transition from ideation of many possible solutions to iteration on a single idea is tested and practiced. Our solution “Kitchen Maestro” is a smart system that is embedded on the refrigerator and helps to plan meals for busy families. The concept is built in a video sketch. Please enjoy the video.

.

MathWhiz on tablet PC, Education software redesign project

Challenged to redesigned the current user interface of an educational software on tablet PC to support pen-based activities and make the experience closer to the traditional paper/pencil environment. Various methods are used to gather user data including cooperative inquiry, heuristic evaluation, participatory design, paper prototyping, etc. Final deliverable is new user interface design to enhance usability and feedback mechanism of interaction with the MathWhiz software.

.

More projects on UI design, user research area to be introduced later.
